This Day

By Andulu Maseko

As the sun is rising,
Rays smiling,
Let it kindle in us a fire of love
Torching, even the wet wood.

As it writhes,
Dragging itself high above roofs,
Let us be a force of unity
A magnet to separate poles.

As it bows to night,
Rays dying,
Let our gripe be put in a casket
And, laid to rest.
